Question Open for Discussion on STATION

Here is a question posed by Julie at our last gathering, "There are a lot of young adults around- we've seen them in all of our churches, why aren't they coming to STATION?"

Any thoughts? Leave a comment...

Six Steps to Encouragement: Step 1

Last Friday, we started our new study on encouragement. Our time started out with a discussion of what role words had in people becoming Christians. A major theme came out - it took a combination of both words and relationship to change an unbelieving heart.

Of course, behind those words and relationships is the God who gives power to both. God speaks powerfully to create, judge, save, disclose and change. Thus leaving us with the point of the entire study on encouragement - God's Word changes us; through us, it can changes others too.

So, step one of encouragement - trusting in the powerful words spoken by God as the only means by which people are saved and changed.

We took some time to look at Romans 1:16-17. How does that passage convince the person who holds that all-to-typical view that proclaiming the gospel is not necessary but only living properly is? Feel free to leave comments as to your answer.

Six Steps to Encouragement

Hello Everyone,

As a reminder, Station meets on the first and third Friday of each month (unless otherwise noted) at New Wilmington Presbyterian Church at 7pm. This Friday, we are starting a new series - Six Steps to Encouragement.

This will be an interesting series because all of are called to encourage one another in the Lord. The problem is that we seldom do it. Take, for example, the conversations that follow a Sunday morning gathering. Over fellowship time at the church or over a good meal, we immediately and instinctively take off our "church hats" and get back to normal life with conversations about work, sports, vacations, etc. Such conversations are usually interesting but do not contribute much to the reason we do gather with other Christians - for mutual encouragement (Heb 10:24-25).

Of course, there is a time and place for such conversations but never at the expense of substantive words spoken for the sake of godly encouragement. The latter is what we all strugle with. How to speak words of encouragement? When to speak? What to actually say? Our study will begin to dig into the theory and practice of how Christians are to speak to one another.

I'll be posting more as our group dives into this topic. Until then, please feel free to leave feedback as to how you see Christian encouragement happening a)on Sunday mornings and b) throughout the week. Further, considering leaving a suggestion as to how you would define Christians encouragement.

Up and Running

Hello Everyone,

Thanks for continuing to check in with us here at Station. We apologize for not keeping up with posts here. However, we will have a renewed effort in keeping you up on the latest happenings with Station but also on generating some discussion on topics of the Bible, Christianity, life, sports, politics, etc. Of course, we will keep football talk to a minimum as we have some Browns fans among us.

As for now, know that Station meets on the 1st and 3rd Friday of each month. We gather at New Wilmington Presbyterian Church at 7pm. Anyone is welcome to join us. But we will say from the outset that our group is made up of people mostly from age 22 and up and thus our discussions center on life as pre-middle-agers (like that?).

We are starting a new topic/study this Friday night (7/20). So, it would be a good time to join in. If you want more information, just leave a comment to this post and we'll back to you as soon as possible.

New Study Begins Friday...

Hello All,
Thanks for your feedback on the upcoming study and Pirates game. We are still in a deadlock for which study to go through for Friday - all ideas have one vote. I know the suspense is killing you, but you'll have to wait.
As for the Pirates game, it looks like Saturday, September 8th will be the night that works best for most everyone. I will let you know for sure on Friday.
So, we are meeting this Friday at New Wilmington Presbyterian Church at 7pm.
Looking forward to seeing everyone.
Blessings,
Marty

Hi! We haven't posted for awhile (I guess we've been too busy reading ahead), so I thought it was time for something new. We're still meeting on the first and third Fridays of each month at the New Wilmington Presbyterian Church at 7:00 PM. Right now we're working our way through the book of Ecclesiastes. Join us sometime!
